World Aids Day
Tuesday, 1 December 2009

Worlds Aid Day is an international day to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS around the world. It reminds us that HIV has not gone away, and still remains a challenge. Under the theme “I am responsible, We are responsible, South Africa is taking responsibility” we need to respond to the scourge as a collective, all sectors of our communities working together. A red ribbon is worn on this important day as a sign of support for people infected or affected by HIV. This is again a call to pharmacists to take up their role with more urgency. It is the time of the year when members of the profession are reminded to continue to play a prominent role in making a difference in the lives of the people of this country. Pharmacists should always remember that, as members of the multi-professional healthcare team, they are the first point of contact for patients who seek advice as well as the last point of contact for patients who come with a prescription. We must help to “Stop AIDS and keep the promise” by strengthening the patient-pharmacist relationship. Together we can!
