THE SOUTH AFRICAN PHARMACY COUNCIL 

RULES RELATING TO GOOD PHARMACY PRACTICE

The South African Pharmacy Council herewith publishes the additional minimum standards to be added to Annexure A of Rules relating to good pharmacy practice published on the 17 December 2004 Government Gazette No: 27112 of Board Notice 129 of 2004 in terms of section 35A(b)(ii) of the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974, as amended.

 SCHEDULE 

Rules relating to what constitutes good pharmacy practice 

1.        In these rules “the Act” shall mean the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974, as amended, and any expression to which a meaning has been assigned in the Act shall bear such meaning.

2.       The following minimum standards as published herewith shall constitute additional standards to be added to Annexure A of the Rules relating to good pharmacy practice in accordance with section 35A(b)(ii) of the Act - 

·       Minimum Standards - Emergency contraception

·       Minimum Standards - cholesterol monitoring

·       Minimum Standards - Pregnancy tests

·       Minimum Standards - Product not in the Pharmacy

·       Minimum Standards - Urine Analysis

·       Minimum Standards - Approval of tutors and premises for training of pharmacist interns and pharmacist

·       Minimum Standards - Control of specified schedule 5 and schedule 6 substances

·       Minimum Standards - Glucose monitoring

A complete set of standards is set out above. Interested persons are invited to submit written comments or representations on the proposed minimum standards to the Registrar, P O Box 40040, Arcadia, 0007 (for the attention of Manager: Pharmacy Practice) or vincent@pharmcouncil.co.za, within 30 days of the date of publication of this Notice, i.e. 22 July 2005.

THE SOUTH AFRICAN PHARMACY COUNCIL
 
RULES RELATING TO GOOD PHARMACY PRACTICE
 
The rules relating to Good Pharmacy Practice were published in the Government Gazette (Board Notice 129 of 2004) No 27112 on 17 December 2004.

These Good Pharmacy Practice Standards as published above shall consitute good pharmacy practice and will be available for purchasing in electronic and printed format from the offices of Council at the end of January 2005.
